Adding additional IPv4 to server

This article shows you how to setup your additional IPv4 on Debian, CentOS, FreeBSD and Windows.

All our servers are delivered with a single IPv4, and a /48 IPv6-subnet. If you need more, you can always request additional IPv4 for your server through ENIGMA.

In this example, we will add the following extra IPv4 to your server. The IP address has been automatically routed to your primary IP.

185.181.62.200

Debian / Ubuntu

Open /etc/network/interfaces. Your IPv4 configuration will already be present in the file:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0 
iface eth0 inet static
address 185.125.168.100
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 185.125.168.1

Add the following block

auto eth0:0
iface eth0:0 inet static
address 185.181.62.200
netmask 255.255.255.255

You can add additional addresses by duplicating this block and change eth0:0 to eth0:1. You may need to replace eth with your actual network interface. It may not be the same. It's also important that you use netmask 255.255.255.255 and NOT 255.255.255.0.

Save the file and restart your network by issuing service networking restart. We usually recommend a full reboot of your server.

CentOS / RHEL

Open /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0 and add these lines:

DEVICE=eth0:0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=185.181.62.200
NETMASK=255.255.255.255
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=no

You can add additional addresses by duplicating this block and change eth0:0 to eth0:1. You may need to replace eth with your actual network interface. It may not be the same. It's also important that you use netmask 255.255.255.255 and NOT 255.255.255.0.

Save the file and restart your network by issuing service network restart. We usually recommend a full reboot of your server.

FreeBSD

Open /etc/rc.conf and add these lines:

ifconfig_em0_alias0="inet 185.181.62.200 netmask 255.255.255.255"

Replace em0 with your actual network interface. It may not be the same. To add more IPs, simply duplicate the line and replace alias0 with alias1 etc.
